Apple never intended for iWork to compete with MS Office. Apple merely wanted to fill a niche for those AppleWorks users who didn't need a full blown behemoth Office Suite like MS Office.
It is only the die-hard Apple users that detest MS Office who are suggesting that iWork is a replacement for MS Office.
I have been using Pages and Keynote since Day One. Pages One was almost worthless in my book. Apple should have given away Pages v2 to those who suffered through version 1. Keynote was interesting and useful from version one but still lags significantly behind PowerPoint.
Both Pages 2 and Keynote now make a nice little package at $79.00 for those users who don't need to work in an MS Office environment and don't need all of the revision, collaboration, and integration tools of MS Office.
But come on, let's get real. iWork doesn't really come close to what is offered by a professional business suite like MS Office. It's like saying, Photshop Elements is a replacement for Creative Suite 2.:eek:

I'm 99% certain iPhone 5 is announced at WWDC. Doesn't make sense to go further out, especially with Android bringing up the rear in a big hurry.

If they manage to seamlessly integrate this into Windows they've a good chance to beat the **** out of the iPod (so far, all the hardware that Microsoft produces is great.. I'm using a Microsoft Natural keyboard as well as a Microsoft Bluetooth mouse with my Powerbook).

Assume Apple and Amazon have the same deals with the record labels which is most likely the case.
Sure, they both have a deal that lets the labels set the prices. And the labels are underselling their digital copies on Amazon.
It is actually more likely they don't have the same deal. MP3 like Kindle files are loss leaders for Amazon. They are there and cheap to draw folks to the website where they will buy other more profitable things. That can only be done if Amazon has price control.

Apple has proven that market share does not = profitability. I think Apple's focus is right.
I don't see how market share helps Amazon, in this case, if they are losing money on it and have no off-setting profit generated by the loss.
Also, I wonder when this comes into effect. I was just at the Amazon store and most the music I looked at was at $1.29 or $.99 a song - I only saw one $.69 song. Of course, my tastes don't trend toward a lot of pop.

I still usually buy CDs for music I care about, if what I am after is not easily obtainable on CD I buy from an online store who offer 320kbps files when possible. Market forces are the only way they (Amazon, iTunes etc) will ever higher quality or lossless.

This update was unfortunately a horrible bust for me. Autoimporter is not working properly for my iPhone. Safari is crashing on pages where it wasn't before. IDK, maybe it'll work itself out........

For people buying an expensive smartphone getting the 3GS is a good deal. Notice how they sell more of them then any other smartphone besides the iPhone 4, even when Android handset makers give away their product.
No its not, its old hardware and knowing apple after 2 years the iOS support isnt going to last for very long. Seeing its only 100 under the iphone 4 price with less disc space its really only for those people who desperatly want an apple phone but cant spend that extra 100 . But for those people no doubt there are plenty of very good and cheaper alternatives.

The rest of the design is not so bad but I wish Apple would get over the urge to make things look like their physical incarnations. I know there is a name for this but it escapes me at the moment.

Maybe I'm just picky, but it looks like it might be TOO thin! Like I preferred the 3rd gen iPod touches because they seemed to be the best thickness, the 4th gen took it too far and having the volume and lock buttons on the curve felt weird and not as nice :/

I believe icerabbit was referring to a feature to restore an item to its original location once putting it in the trash. Windows has this feature in the recycle bin and it's a handy little feature.
This isn't to do with Time Machine as the user has not yet deleted the item from the Trash and the system.
If so, that's a feature Macs had up until OS 9 (it was called Put Away) and it was nice--I'd be glad to have it back. Undo usually meets this need for me, but not always. (I think Put Away also worked for files you dragged onto the desktop.)

I believe that it isn't suggesting anything at all. When you go to list the devices that your application is compatible with, that is likely just an exposed extra field for if you wanted to include another device that is capable. It is in my opinion, nothing but a little bug. (Though emulating iOS apps om my Mac would be cool :P)

However, if I were told it was indeed a new device and had to take a guess, I'd say it's becoming more and more likely that Apple is going to try to leverage the popularity of iOS to sell more laptops. Imagine a laptop with a touch screen that somehow could lay down flat and switch into an iOS mode, not emulated, but the real thing. Basically, it would be a laptop that could convert into an iPad. I can imagine a lot of interest in a single device that can run both OS X and iOS.

right now its reformatting into a RAID, boss wanted to RAID it. lost 2 frames no biggie. here's what i got before that
[22:05:44] pleted 2500 out of 250000 steps (1%)
[22:54:37] Completed 5000 out of 250000 steps (2%)
so thats about 50 mins per frame. i was thinking maybe that was due to the clock speed being 2.26 or the HT. the old 3ghz MP does a frame in the low to mid 40s
wont get to test until tomorrow
oh wow. so wait, whiterabbit's mp was 2.26 or 2.66? based off that, i guess 2.66. hey maybe the raid will help some?

At&t bumped my upgrade eligibility from 11/30/2011 to 6/30/2011.
I do a lot of business and have several activated lines with AT&T and Verizon. I purchase several new phones annually from each of them. I'm a true smartphone addict. :eek:
AT&T has revamped the way they calculate upgrade eligibility and time lines. They used to simply count the months you've been in contract and assign you a fixed date.
Recently all that has changed. Now they take into consideration how much you spend with them, how many lines you have, what your data plan and text msg plans are etc. They monitor this on an ongoing basis. As a result your upgrade date on your account is dynamic and will change periodically.
It may change frequently or just once or twice during your contract period. In my case what I like is I get upgrade pricing just about anytime I wish based on the fact I spend quite a bit to have several concurrently activated phones.
Your mileage may vary :)

I just found that the person that was beat up was transgender and this was a hate crime. How come this is not all over the news? I guess hate crimes are okay now by black people but if a white person did this it would be the end of the world.
