What to do with all those wires!

Well hello.  I am on camera #2 and maybe I'm on the right track this time.  I want to share another corner in my house.  This is my family room.  It's also the back entrance, mud room and drop zone.  I have struggled with this room since we moved into this house.  It's better now that my kids are gone, but it still gets really messy.  When we went to wireless internet, I had a modem, router and all those wires that I didn't know what to do with.  This was my solution.

This was an empty wall.  I added the ladder shelves.

This is a little closer look.  I got the baskets on the bottom shelves at Hobby Lobby.  Note the open handles in the sides of the baskets.

It took some plugging and unplugging but I was able to get all the wires through the handle of the basket.
If you want to do this make sure you get handles that are big enough to put through a power strip.  Some of the wires are still visible but it's way better than when I started.
This wall is always a work in progress.  I change it up by adding seasonal items.  At Christmas I had red ornaments in the glass vases.  That was before my blogging days though so there isn't a picture.

Have a good Sunday and I'll be back in a day or two.  Next project is a heart wreath for my front door.

I entered this post in a Linky Party for new bloggers.  Get details at

HOT WEEKEND

We've been experiencing some very warm weather here in Melbourne this weekend.
Friday night we welcomed the weekend with a bottle of champagne or should I call it a sparkling white these days.
Saturday morning was pleasant and after the morning ride, Sue needed my help to purchase more Nespresso pods at the huge Chadstone shopping centre. Let me say that I consider this experience as a form of punishment. I'm sure I have been a good boy lately but nevertheless, we battled the multitude of shoppers. The incentive of a coffee and muffin helped to soften the experience. We do love our Nespresso so I guess it was worth the trip.

We had it mind to enjoy dinner Saturday night on the deck with a light meal of prawns cooked on the BBQ. Marinated in chili and garlic with virgin olive oil - not bad at all. The salad was rocket, toasted pine nuts, Parmesan cheese dressed with Vin cotto. Naturally we did enjoy some wine with that but I've forgotten what it was.
As Paul Hogan (Crocodile Dundee) once said for Tourism Australia
"Chuck another Shrimp on the Barbie"
We prefer Prawns - big ones.

A perfect summer light meal.

So I thought I might just mention another frivolous little group of wines that we occasionally enjoy called "Arrogant Frog". http://www.arrogantfrog.fr/ We've been buying these wines mainly because they bring back memories of our times in the South of France in the Languedoc region. Paul Mas is the Vigneron and he has a marvelous sense of humour. He even has a Frog Blog - http://www.arrogantfrog.fr/blog/

A red, a pink and a white - Paul Mas also sends us a sticky and a sparkling.
All his wines I describe as cheap and cheerful (and not too shabby)

Don't you just love his labels?
Sunday Morning - it's in the high 30s and the low overnight is predicted to drop to only 23 overnight. It seems that summer has decided to relax in Melbourne for the next week. While I write this, it's 6.00 pm and it's now 39. It should be a warm welcome for Leigh and Sophie, our friends from Paris - they arrive next week and we are looking forward to offering some Aussie hospitality. Naturally Leigh is a cyclist................................

As I rode home on the Sunday at 10.30 am, the temperature was rising into the 30s. This picture depicts a small bay within Port Phillip bay. Those little white spots on the water are Pelicans.
Sights like these make me feel privileged to live where we do.
For the previous few weeks, Sue and I have been reliving "the West Wing" one of our very favourite series. We have them all from 1 through to 7. It drives Sue to distraction that I need sub-titles to keep up with the dialogue. I think we just might be watching another two episodes tonight with coffee and cheese.

Time for another West Wing tonight.

For a Blogger friend from Belgium.
Ladybird - how about Aussie Kim??????
“I do enjoy this win, especially here in Australia, as well.
It's been a country where I've always loved coming to and where I've always been very well-received,” she said today.

Hope your weekend was relaxing and eventful.

How to Make a Good Drawing Graffiti Style?

Graffiti Style,Graffiti letters
Graffiti is an art that has existed since long. There are several ways and methods of making graffiti. Examples are drawing directly to the wall with a spraycan, drawing graffiti design as a wallpaper with the computer, drawing on a paper / books and so forth. To form or by any graffiti motif has many types and categories. There is graffiti alphabet, graffiti letters, graffiti Sketches, 3D graffiti, bubble graffiti, graffiti mindGem and much more. Because graffiti has a lot of force then we must know how to make it right. The Following Are A Few tips to get you started, but the rest is up to you and your aerosol (or paintbrush beside it, or pen).

Things You'll Need:
Paper
Pencil
Marker
Font/script templates
Aerosol spray paint
Paintbrush
Roller
Chalk or charcoal
Waterproof varnish

1. Practice on paper first. Most artists start with their names. Start with a pencil and play around with it. Templates can be easily procured online if you're uncomfortable free-handing bubble and 3D font.
2. Graffiti typically uses overlapping lettering. Try using a bubble font: vary between rounded edges/angles or sharp. A 3-D effect can be attained by using a darker color to shade the outside area of one side of each letter you write.
3. Don't feel constricted to the alphabet. Even to your name you can add character and personality through creative use of symbolism: speech bubbles, small caricatures, objects to replace letters in a word (for example, the image of a life preserver instead of the letter "O").
4. Trace over your penciled lines with black. Finally, use shading and lots of color. Use a fine-tipped utensil first, then shade using a thick-tipped tool such as a marker.
5. Keep practicing and looking at work that other graffiti artists have done. It's the primary way to learn and improve! As you move to a larger (and possibly outdoor) arena, you can replace pencil sketches with charcoal and chalk, and use a variety of spray paint to add color and permanence. Brushes and rollers can be used as well. Start with lighter colors and work up to darker colors. Varnish can also be thinly applied after the paint dries to ensure permanence. SATURDAY SONG James Reyne

There is a time when you stop in your music evolution - I'm sure this true for most of us. For me, I think it was the 80s. I became responsible, bought a house, got married (again), started a family.
I was still listening to Van Morrison, Rod Stewart and Phil Collins with a sprinkling of Blues and Jazz.
We had a lot of great Aussie music which seemed a little off centre from the usual British and US music at the time. Maybe we realised we could do our own thing.
Great Aussie bands emerged - Men at Work, Australian Crawl, and others.
Australian Crawl were a local band from our Bay area. James Reyne had an unusual voice but the band wrote great songs of sun, beach, love and growing up. One of my faves was "Reckless", even people older than me (at the time) liked this song.
Here's James Reyne doing Reckless after the demise of Australian Crawl (which incidentally is a swimming style) with some "Cobbers" of his in the music industry - just having a bit of a lark together.....
