Okay, this guy must live in a "garden" apartment or something. I live in NYC and the only place I drop calls 100% of the time is near the Verizon building by the Brooklyn Bridge. Irony of ironies.

But my dropped call percentage is less that 5%.

I live in Hell's Kitchen, and I rarely drop calls here, though data speeds during rush hour are pathetically slow.

I walk near Union Square every day on my way home from work, and every single time I'm at 5th Ave & 13th st. I drop a call... every single time... I can never hold a call near union square.

AT&T service is really not good in NYC. There's no point in my getting a 3Gs for faster 3G... it's all slow here, regardless of the model iPhone.

I drop about 15-20% of my calls. Near Union Square I drop 75-80% easily.

They're behind Gateway in number of units shipped. Gateway produces and ships more units than Apple.

Michael, read shawnce's message #61. It's exactly how I wanted to reply to your statement, only better.

About market share, there is an optimal level, I believe. Too low and the issue of third-party applications and peripherals becomes a problem. However, if Apple's marketshare gets too high, there could be some anti-trust problems.

Let's face it: Apple is a monopoly, but with such a small market share, it is a monopoly that we have freely chosen to deal with. We Mac consumers cannot go to the DOJ and claim we have no alternatives (just because your alternatives suck doesn't mean you don't have them.) If Apple were wildly successful and exceeded this threshold market share, their business model may be interfered with by the government.

10% should be far below that threshold.

I saw one in the wild.

Employee at an AT&T store in Charlotte, NC had one last week when I stopped in to purchase a car charger. He said they are probably going to be out soon, but mentioned that he is having problems with the proximity sensor. he said the screen display is staying on when he is on calls and that his cheek/ear are activating display controls. Could it be an issue with the bright white reflecting too much light into the sensor?

Does a proximity sensor work off light? (Honest question, I'm ignorant)

From personal experience with my own phone I thought it worked by doing exactly what the name implies, sensing when your face is close to the phone, not by determining how much light there is?

I am sure any plans to launch it have been scrapped and this is just a left over prototype. You know Apple has a history of planning for every contingency, I am sure there are Sprint iPhones ready to go also. If Apple decides to release them they would be ready to go.

I very much hope Apple will have a Sprint phone -- I'll buy one that works on Sprint.

why do people buy the video ipod with its tiny screen when there are other, better, video players out there already?

I have one of these ( and its fantastic.

IMHO, both Apple and Microsoft will have to go some way to beat the COWON A2.

    I know,
    A) people use the iPod video for Music first, thats why its "iPod video" not the "Video iPod". The video feature is only a bonus.

    B) you can use the iTMS with the iPod video

    C) Its $120 more than the iPod

    D) Who the hell is COWON?!? - It's sounds like one of those "Simpsons brands" like Sorny.

When the REAL Video iPod comes out, this will be a collectable* item like a Beta VCR.

    *By "Collectable" I mean - un-resell-able.

I will say the market seems to disagree.
It seems to be 4-4.3 in screens is the sweet spot. 4.5 seems to be 2 big but 4-4.3 people seem to like.

I know most people like that size of screen. However, I hate it. The 3GS is the perfect size imo. Slides in the pocket nice and easy, but, the screen isn't so tiny you can't press anything either.

So long as Apple doesn't mess with the size of the device, I'll be indifferent. I just don't want to carry something as big as some of the Android devices I've seen.

    It hasn't been fixed.

well it's kinda weird - ip4 is fast enought to have NO animation problems. This started exacly the same as 3G problems on iOS3.x.

In a few months we all know that ip4 is too slow, too old and we would need to switch to ip5 :/

it is sad to see that Apple don't care about performance anymore...

LOL you didn't even know about the outage until i posted a link. now it was just some tiny network glitch that wasn't the run of the mill ;)

did i ever say apple's was gonna be the biggest and the baddest? the funny thing is....i use amazon vod all the time on my naw, i'm not really an apple fanboy but thanks for assuming.

Then what the hell was the point in your little rant?! Your whole argument was based on a rare outage. My original point was that Amazons 10 datacenters will work better than Apples point still stands.

FYI: I was very aware of the outage. I run a cloud virtualization (Xen based) company built on S3, GoGrid and Rackspace.

how is this any different than apple's end user-license agreement for mac os x? here is section 2A (

the language implies that virtualization on the same machine using the same software is forbidden. on the other hand, windows xp's end-user licence agreement ( also has similar language disallowing multiple copies of the same software to be run on the same computer:

microsoft's vista license just makes the virtualization part explicit. so i don't know what the hubub is over vista's license since the mac os x and windows xp licenses say the same thing, but not explicitly.
Apple's license doesn't specify limitations of use in a virtualized environment.

I find section 1.1 of Microsoft's license agreement rather amusing...

The ways this has been described don't sound much like Apple. I guess they could build it into iTunes in some fairly fluid way, but still. There has to be more to the data center.

Nor do I see how the data center could allow people to upload non-purchased music. Too much required space, just look at your library size and do the math. iTunes has a massive user base.

Two companies I really don't care for.

Apple makes some sweet hardware (hence I visit this site) but they seriously lack in the software programming and ethical department.

Samsung makes some crappy TVs (I really don't know why they have such a good reputation for TVs, I've got two of them and they look like crap in comparison to my $400 Emerson), not to mention crappy cell phones that are guaranteed to break in a year. (I've gone through three, 1st the slider started to stick, 2nd one the speaker on it broke, and the 3rd one it would double entry the 6 key when I tried to text).

Good for samsung though for trying to strike back for that ridiculous suit Apple did about the Galaxy.

Many get garbage 3G speeds on AT&T in many areas anyway, so what's the point of having a 4G iPhone that GSM provider (insert AT&T) in the US can't even support on a mass basis?
Theoretically, the 4G LTE iPhone would work great in countries not named the United States of America.

59% of Apple's revenue comes from international markets.

Obviously Google has the same opinion as other Android fans... marketshare is king.

Although... in the business world... cash is king.

Congratulations Google... you now have a lot of marketshare. What are you gonna do with it?

Oh yeah... you're an advertising company. I forgot!

    And thats just it.

Google hasn't found a way to capitalizes on its smart phone market share.

So even if they get 75% of the market and Apple keeps its 25%, in terms of revenue Apple is still going to "win".

they should just keep the current iphone design (sans the fragile glass back), make it just a tad thinner with a 3.7 or 4 inch screen, and longer battery life. that mock up is fugly, and looks uncomfortable to hold if that thin.
