^^^ No, America doesn't suck. It's a cool place filled with a lot of cool people (and some a******s, like anywhere else).

But what does suck is to be talking American politics in an interesting thread about JAPAN.

Can we please keep this thread on topic, and have those tedious Republican/Democrat fights somewhere else?

Of course they weren't going to release two in one year. That was all just wishful thinking. Even if they did then to me it would be unsound as a business strategy as they'd then marginalize the iPad 2 and make less profit. And I'd assume the R&D would cost a big chunk.Exactly. Who are they even competing against? 100K XOOMs sold is a joke.

The most noteworthy point in the OP is the fact that GM makes big profits on SUVs, loses money on economy cars and breaks even on the Volt (if they are lucky).

No wonder the Big Three have been flooding the market withg Escalades, Yukons, Trailblazers, Explorers, Expeditions etc etc etc for years. They are cheap trucks with a big fat markup.

Not to mention anything of the Sequoia, FJ Cruiser, 4Runner, Land Cruiser, Armada, Pathfinder, GX460, LX570, QX56. Why do the Asian companies always get a free pass on their giant offerings? They want in on that party just as much as any of the Big Three. In fact, I'd say Toyota is trying way harder than any of the big three brands, with 6 distinct SUV offerings (rav4, fj, highlander, 4runner, sequoia, land cruiser).

If Leopard is released before Vist I won;\'t go near it with a 20 meter cattle prod and even if they gave it away for free. Leopard released that soon would scream revenge of the Tiger launch. Honestly a january lauch of eather Vista or Leopard doesn't serve anyone. For windows they missed the lucrative holiday sales rush and only the after x-mas bargan shoppers are looking to buy in ist quarter. For Apple school sales won't begin for months.
All that a January Leopard launch would prove would be the immaturity of the people running Apple. e.g. Its better to ship an OS that probably has a ton of bugs in it to be able to thumb our collective noses at MS then ship a solid product. IMHO I'm REALLY hoping for a WWDC launch of Leopard.

I hope it works out for you, I just think you may be affected by a bit of a reality distortion field and your actual user experience may differ from your imaginary scenario.

And you must be totally void of imagination and creative intelligence. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why you hate apple.

Let me guess your an engineer type - who loves specs and rarely has a unique thought of your own.

I just love how consistent Apple is with all of their software. It brings the ease of editing from Logic and iMovie. This is gonna be such a deal breaker!

    Super excited!

    Come on guys!

Apple is not doing this for the first time! They know exactly what they are doing by maintaining a healthy level of tension regarding stock, shipping, etc. It's all part of the game!

My one and only hope for 10.7 is that Apple FINALLY brings OS X up to par with Windows when it comes to connecting--and staying connected--to network shares.

I've said this so many times but it has yet to materialize: OS X needs something more robust, similar to Window's drive mappings. I know we all love to look down our noses at how Windows still uses that anachronistic drive mapping system but here's the deal--it STILL blows OS X's approach out of the water.

Typical OS X user experience is this: I mount a network share. I work through the day but if there's any significant network connectivity issue, my mount point goes away and OS X alerts me that the network share is no longer available and I have to reconnect. IOW, OS X suddenly turns helpless on me and my mounted share just disappears because it's too dumb to know what else to do.

On Windows, you create static mount points (those drive mappings) that persist even when the connection is lost. If you have lost the connection and you (or a program) tries to access that mapped share, the OS automatically reconnects--completely transparently--and carries on as if nothing happened. Ironically, this is more Mac-like than the Mac.

Anyone who has gone through the experience of automating tasks on OS X, assuming the presence of a persistent connection to a given share, knows what kind of torment this can be. And it's really such a basic thing. Stay connected, and if you lose the connection, try to reconnect if a program or person tries to access it. Why can't we have that? It works great on Windows.

Fortunately, I've discovered how to make automounts on OS X which persist somewhat in the way I've described above but that functionality is buried down deep in the Unix internals of OS X and requires some serious geek cred to get working. Apple has yet to put a decent user interface on it.

I hope that arrives in 10.7. That's all I ask for. The rest will be icing on the cake.

Prior to my first Mac experience almost 3 years ago now, I was in the Windows / Linux / PC world. Quite frankly, the Windows networks that functioned the best were the ones with at least one PC running Linux. That is, unless you were willing to run Windows server products. Otherwise, Windows networking and/or drive mappings could stop working at any time, and for no apparent reason. Any amount of research pointed to solutions, which might work one time, but not the next.

Things like that kept me busy.

Now, I almost don't know what to do with my free time!

I'd love to see integrated file conversion. You simply right-click a file, select the desired format and click Ok and the file will be converted where it is. Of course you have the choice whether to make a reformatted copy of it instead.

Still impressed by what they manage to cram inside these machines...

Yeah a hybrid of laptop/pc parts in a thick LCD monitor case :p

Now if they used a high end macbook pro logicboard and 2.5 drives that slot loaded into the bottom on a removable carrage they could thin this thing down by half again!

    Bible belt.

There are a lot of places where you have to go to a liquor/package store to buy real beer because state law only allows supermarkets/convenience stores to sell 3.2% beer.

Ironic considering the massive amount of drive through liquor stores many of those states have isn't it? LOL

Newer updates contain newer features (that the Apps might require to run) as well as essential security fixes. Running an older iOS version (as with any OS) is simply ill advised.
Obviously, if an app requires newer features it should require it. But if it's just doing basic stuff that you could do since, say, 4.0, why exactly should they require you update to 4.3.3? And if it doesn't need/use things like multitasking, why not use as low of a rev as possible to ensure the most people possible can run the app?

I have a number of friends with 3G phones that refuse to upgrade since they've seen lots of issues on their devices with the newer firmware, and there's an increasing number of apps they can't run but have no discernible reason to be requiring the newest firmware version...

This is spam to torture a MR member, which doesn't get closed as quick -- at least until it goes way off topic.

Personal clarification and enlightenment arrive after midnight ... thanks. After this post, my participation in such threads will have blissfully ended. At times I am such a slow learner.

Sorry but that's not the case, created an account just recently to provide my input on this issue on another thread. I am 3 iPads down with problems and still hoping the 4th will arrive with no leakage or dead pixels. I'm glad yours is "absolute fine" but if you do a search or just ask around you will find this is a widespread problem

Mine is fine. No bleed. I'm not sayin it does not exist, but mine is fine.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

So ridiculous dude. Just embarassing. Do you really think anyone has the time or desire?

I am on my second iPad 2 and this one has far worse bleed then the first did which is just sad..

If this is not an issue then the thread with 108,000 views would like to have a word with you..

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1114606

My bad if this is for real, it just sounds so much like the iPhone Antenna issues threads that started last year. I bought in to that whole garbage hook line and sinker at first and there were tons of newbies posting on the problem.

When I finally got to see a few actual iPhone 4's (never bought one since I am still under contract for 3GS) -- I could not replicate the problem. Over the past year I must have tried on about 20 iPhone 4's of friends, many times in areas of really bad coverage and compared it directly with my 3GS -- but no antenna issue could be discerned that was any worse than other smart phones and it consistently out-performed the antenna on my 3GS.

Clearly volume of posts (108,000) does not make the problem real since the iPhone 4 Antenna got more posts than I can count on more threads than I count. But it certainly lends some credence.

I also find it a bit hard to believe that Halebopp has managed to get 3 iPad 2's in the two weeks that they have been out and that he is waiting for the 4th given the production shortages. Unless Halebopp is going down to the Apple Store every morning at 7am and waiting in line for it to open so he can exchange the unit before the stock disappears. Maybe Apple Store is willing to hold one for you if you call the day before and tell them about the problem you are having and that you need an exchange. But I remember when folks where exchanging their 27-inch iMacs that had screen problems that it took quite a while to get replacement units.

So maybe it was/is a bit presumptuous of me to assume that since mine was fine that this was a repeat of that whole Antenna-gate thing. If so then I apologize, and I will reserve my judgement until there are enough iPad 2's out there in circulation for me to test with a dozen or so units of friends.

With regards to whether or not I think folks have the time or desire to post fake problems with regards to Apple products, I believe the answer is "yes" based on what I have seen. Does it mean that is always or usually the case, probably not.

I want a character that will greet you by your name, like , "hey there waloshin, how you doing?" You would respond and it would be interactive by saying something like, "thats cool. " It would also reconize the many human emotions, and facial expressions and would try to cheer you up or something if you look sad or depressed.

It think what many of us feel (most of us?) is that iCal's a little useless without being integrated into Mail. Having to shuttle back and forth is inefficient. The little "shortcuts" (hacks) that Apple seems to be using make it even more annoying in my opinion. They don't want to go head to head with entourage, I get it, but until you do, iCal gets deleted from my machine.

If you don't like iCal and it doesn't fit your needs, try something like Entourage. Maybe coming from your PC background it'll feel more at home? Part of the MS office suite. Yes I know MS ewww. But it's there
